Dream Job

If you had just started working or in the midst of switching job, do you really know what you want out from the first or next job?

Are you waiting for the dream job to come?  In reality, it is difficult to have a dream job which may never exit.

Useful Tips
  • Do a self analysis - be honest about your strengths & weakness, what is your personality type?  Doing some personality tests may help in self awareness.
  • Explore jobs that match your personality and do research on the job skills required.  Say if you have passion to teach, you would need to go through the structured training to be qualified as a teacher.
  • Determine and rank the factors that are important to you to keep you motivated in a job - is it working environment, company culture, nature of work, working life balance or remuneration etc? Review which factors are must have and which can be compromised?  Be prepared for some sacrifices or adjustments to your lifestyle eg if you like job that required frequent overseas travelling, are you prepared to compromise work life balance as you have lesser time for the family?
  • Visualise yourself progressing up in the career path that you had chosen and see if you will still be happy in that field or industry 10 years later?  Although we cannot predict what will happen in future, we can plan for what we want to achieve and work towards it.
  • Review your career progress regularly say after 2 - 5 years, whether you need to take any further actions to achieve what you wanted.
Stay focus on what is important to you and attract it by working towards it.  Who knows, you may really end up with a dream job!
